Online Cyanotype Workshops

Continuing with Cyanotype

6 hours over 3 weekend sessions

This online class will dive deeper into the creative possibilities of the cyanotype process. Ideal for those familiar with cyanotype printing who want to take their technique a step further. Over three sessions, we will examine this unique alternative photographic process. We will cover advanced techniques and experimentation in each of the stages of the process, from chemicals, papers, or materials, exposure, and processing. Using pre-recorded demonstrations and lots of examples, Emma will address various approaches and technical experimentation at each step of the process, from coating to exposure and processing, while answering your questions. Along the way, we will discuss possible modifications to the cyanotype process, celebrate the successes you wish to share, and troubleshoot your discoveries.

Sessions are recorded and available to participants for several months after the workshop on a password-protected participants page that includes the video recordings, along with online access to the presentation slides and digital negative template. If you cannot make a session, you will be able to watch on your own time and follow up with questions or comments.

Online Creative Photoshop

From selections and layering to basic compositing, this online class will unlock the creative potential in Adobe Photoshop. This class is designed to help beginners navigate the program and improve their skills through a set of repeatable techniques. The sessions will be recorded and available to participants after the class.

Digital Negative Classes

These online classes cover how to make a digital negative with curves. This is for beginners or those interested in using an adjustment curve for alternative photographic process negatives. I will walk you through each step needed to make a digital negative.

Using this method, you can make negatives for Cyanotype, VanDyke Brown, Gum Bichromate, Platinum/Palladium, and potentially other processes. Both of these workshops are meant for printing digital negatives using an inkjet printer on transparency material such as Pictorico, Fixxons, or Artista (links and more info here).

There are two versions of this workshop using different platforms:

Photoshop: For this workshop, I will provide a Photoshop file with layers to be used as a template. I designed this system to be easily used and to provide some flexibility to make adjustments. During the live session, I will go through each step for using the template in Adobe Photoshop.

Lightroom: This workshop covers a workflow that I have recently developed using Lightroom Classic. I will provide curves as Lightroom presets that can be added in Adobe Lightroom Classic.

These sessions will be recorded and made available to you here (on a password-protected participants page) for three months afterward.
